Many kermit users put "vt320" as their terminal type. However the
distribution/flavor of FreeBSD 2.X (used by so many ISP's) assumes that
you are running a much larger screen size (it also assumes the same for
xterm I note).
This caused much annoyance when trying to help a friend over the phone.
who also had trouble with the screen handling with *any* vt102
emulator under DOS. (ie trying to assign keys to screen handling with
"less")
The problem wasn't solved until I went over, had him logged into his
account, and installed his own termcap and terminfo databases, which
I downloaded from my own machine (running Linux). Mine are based
on the distribution from ncurses, but modified using suggestions
included in the minicom package. (some what reduced, I deleted
support which while fun for memories, aren't likely to be used)
The ones I have have a "PC Kermit 3.XX" entry. I aliased it to
"msk3" and finally also to "mst3k" which everyone seemed to enter by
mistake.
Now note he didn't just have problems with Kermit, but also Procom
Plus for Windows, Telemate 4.2, Quicklink II and the Pericom vt420
emulator of Windows.
I actually test my terminal applications by logging in with a DOS/Win
machine and an older Mac SE, using every program I own (which is quite a
few looking at all the ones which came for "free" with all the modems I
bought with "less" and "pine" because I figure the minimum is that they
can read the manual pages correctly and can then email me for help.
(these days I also make sure that slrn and lynx work right also)
Besides, most of my friends took so long to learn how to get
MS Kermit and Telemate to run optimal for them, they don't even want to
know how to configure Netscape.

PS-has anyone tried getting C-Kermit to compile under DJGPP? I know
that a lot of things wouldn't work, but I thought the serial/modem
stuff would.
